- Expropriation: The action by the state or an authority of taking property from its owner for public use or benefit.
From Encyclopedia Brittanica:
Howard Zinn was an American historian and social activist who created in his best-known book, A People’s History of the United States (1980), a left-wing narrative that provided the then-unusual perspectives of the working poor, of people of color, and of the dispossessed. In A People’s History and his many other works, Zinn explored how changes have come more from grassroots movements than from the actions of the conventional historical heroes and espoused his belief that ordinary people must stand up to injustice and fight to bring about a righteous society.
